Car Stereos: Install car stereo, ford wiring harness, pioneer head unit

Question
I want to replace my pioneer stereo with a new pioneer stereo but I have never tried it before. How hard is it? I have a 2001 Ford F150 and stereo is about 7 yrs old. I had to buy new wiring for aftermarket stereo so hopefully I can use the same harness.
Thanks!

Answer
Hi Art,

It should be a pretty easy replacement, but you won't be able to just unplug the old Pioneer head unit and plug in the new one; Pioneer has changed its plug design two or three times in the past 7 years.  You'll also need to remove the old Pioneer mounting sleeve, and install the new one; that's also been redesigned.  The same removal keys that come with the new head unit should work to pull out the old one.

You can re-use your original Ford wiring harness that was used to install the first after-market deck; you'll just have to re-wire it to the new Pioneer deck's plug.

Hope this helps!
