Car Stereos: Aftermarket Stero, chevy cavalier, yellow wires

Question
My brother installed a Dual XHD7714 in-dash stereo in my '99 Chevy Cavalier in December. It has worked perfectly with no problems. I use the stereo mostly to listen to my Ipod. My Ipod is an older one and isn't compatible through the USB port, however I am able to connect with an auxillary cord. Anyway, I came on this evening, turned my Ipod off and then turned my car off. A few hours later I was getting in my car again to go somewhere else when I noticed my stereo was frozen. The time on it was 3:22 and that was the time two hours ealier. I held in the power button and the screen went blank and the stereo was unresponsive.
Do you have any explanation why my stereo is not responding?
Thank you!

Answer
Hi Brittany,

Sorry about the delay in answering this question.

You can try resetting the head unit.  From your description, I think there's a pretty good chance a reset will fix the problem.  The reset button is a very small, recessed button located on the front panel under the faceplate.  You can open the faceplate and press the button with the tip of a pen.

Unfortunately, if this doesn't work, then it's likely that the head unit is defective.  It doesn't sound like a wiring or installation problem; it sounds internal.  You can verify this by testing voltage on the red and yellow wires at the back of the head unit (with the key on).  If you find voltage on both wires, but no power on the deck, then check the fuse built into the back of the deck.  If the fuse is good, then the head unit is definitely defective.

Hope this helps!
