Car Stereos: remote wire, power supply voltage, multimeter

Question
My amp just flashes on then turns on, what could be wrong with the remote wire?

Answer
Do you mean, it flashes on then turns off?

The remote wire might not be the problem--in fact, it's more likely to be an issue with the power wire or ground.  If there's a resistance point somewhere on the power or ground wiring, the amplifier would turn on, but as soon as higher current started to flow through the point of resistance, the supply voltage would drop and the amp would turn off again.  This isn't as likely on the remote wire, because the current flow on the remote wire doesn't usually increase no matter how hard the amp is working.

The problem might be caused by a poor ground connection, a poor connection of the power wire to the battery, or even a defective fuse.  The only way to tell for sure is to use a multimeter to test the power supply voltage.

Hope this helps!
