Car Stereos: 04 maxima with navigation, aftermarket radio install, 04 nissan maxima, rca cables

Question
Hey there thanks for taking the time.... can you install a aftermarket radio, in a 04 nissan maxima with navigation? Also if if not able, how could I install a amp and subwoofer to the stock stereo? Thank. You so much

Answer
Hi Julio,

Sorry about the delay in answering this question.

As far as I know, there's no interface adapter available to let you use the factory navigation system with an after-market head unit.  It might be possible to find the navigation audio wires connected to the back of the factory radio, and adapt them to connect to the after-market deck's auxiliary input.  However, you probably couldn't integrate the navigation system with the new deck to the same degree that it works with the factory radio (ie, allowing you to listen to music and still hear voice prompts from the nav system).  I haven't studied the wiring, but it might be possible to connect the nav system output to a separate amplified speaker, instead of having it come from the driver's door speaker like it does now.

On the other hand, using an after-market sub and amp with the factory Bose system should be fairly easy.  You'd just need a device called a line output converter.  This can be connected to the factory subwoofer wiring in the trunk, and converts the audio signal to a low-level output that can be connected to your new amplifier with RCA cables.  A line output converter can be purchased at any store that sells car audio equipment.  This type of setup is extremely common, and the sound is usually comparable to a subwoofer used with an after-market head unit.

Hope this helps!

Brian
