Car Stereos: car stereo, factory radio, button presses

i have an 06 durango, the factory radio comes on whenever it feels like it. i purchased a new car stereo and installed it myself connecting the wires as the details were given in the install kit. powered up and just like the factory radio it will not power on.is there a problem with the cars ground wire? if i press the eject or display button it will pwr on for a moment

The eject and display button working but nothing else working means that the car's accessory wire isn't hooked up correctly (or a fuse has blown).  The constant is working, which is why the deck responds to button presses, but then appears to turn off again, since most decks will let you eject CDs even when they're powered off.
