Car Stereos: Rear Chs full range?, rear speakers, speaker level

Question
I have an 07 Subaru with the stock, single din radio, and the rear ch's don't sound like they are full range. I tried hooking up an 8" DVC woofer to the rear outputs and it sounds no better than the 4" in door speakers. Tried a great sounding 6x9", I took out of another, old car, and it sounds the same. I have read the rear ch's are just "Fill" speakers, or to produce "Ambiance".

I have a speaker level amp  I was thinking of installing if needed, but if my rear ch's aren't full range, looks like I will have to tap into the front ch speaker wires to run the amp,  which I'm not sure how that will work, and put in a volume control for fading. My old car's radio has a lot of power and freq response in the rears.

Answer
Hi Vince,

Your car stereo doing that would be news to me.  Generally, the sound sent to the rear speakers is no different from the front.

Nothing I can dig up suggests that there's any difference, either.

Be sure you don't have a factory amplifier, and something else hasn't gone wrong, or that there isn't a factory crossover or capacitor somewhere blocking somewhere in the frequency range.
