Car Stereos: Display Screen Wont Light Up, remote starter installation, clock radio

Question
Got AutoPage remote start hooked up and now occasionally the display screen (where my navigation, clock, radio station shows) blacks out.  What's the problem?

Answer
Hi Erik,

What kind of vehicle do you have?

I haven't heard of a problem related to a remote starter with the factory display screen in any vehicle, but there are three possibilities:

1.  The installers may have damaged the screen, or damaged a wire or plug going to the screen, during the remote start installation.  This is fairly unlikely; in most cases, installers working on a remote start wouldn't need to remove or access the wiring around a typical display screen.  However, it's possible that they needed to remove the screen for some reason; or that they damaged a wire in another part of the vehicle that affects the screen.

2.  Many modern vehicles use computer data commands to control some functions.  When installing a remote starter, it's common to use a special adapter module that works with the remote start and does things like operate the locks, arm/disarm the factory alarm, or bypass a vehicle anti-theft system.  These adapter modules work by linking to the factory data bus system, and occasionally there are conflicts between the factory data commands and the after-market module.  This type of conflict might be affecting your view screen.

3.  The problem with the view screen may be unrelated to the remote starter installation.

Hope this helps!
