Car Stereos: speaker connection., crossover connections, kappa 6

Question
Hi, I'm having some problems with this equipment.
Sony head cdx-ca890x max power 52watts x4
kappa 6.1 perfect speakers front 100w rms 400w peak
Response precision cs2329 component kevlar rears rms 60w max 120w
coustic 241se 2ch amp 60watts per ch @4ohms
The problem is I cant figure a way to connect the front perfects to the amp, and use the head to drive the rears. The head unit has rca audio out,for front and rear speakers,I connected the rca cable to the  front audio out on the head unit, and from there to the high impedance imputs on the amp. and then connected the speakers to the speaker output terminal on the amp, with correct polarity. Well it sounded bad, tinny thin sound and no volume to speak of.
To drive the rear speakers I've just left them connected to the head and they also sound ordinary. The speakers I have in the rear (Response kevlar splits not using the tweeters but using the crossover) were originally from the front doors and sounded great, way better than the price would suggest, and ran with no amp straight from the head.

Answer
Hi Geoff,

I'm afraid I don't really have an answer for you, as it sounds like your wiring setup is as it should be.  In particular I can't see why switching a set of speakers from the front to the rear outputs on the head unit should have any effect on the sound quality, unless it's related to the mounting location; possibly the rear speaker locations aren't as well baffled (ie, the speaker's front sound wave completely separated from the rear sound wave) as the front locations.

For the Kappa's, I'd mainly double-check the crossover connections; ie, make sure the woofer and tweeter wires are connected to the correct crossover terminals.  You might also want to turn off any crossover filters on the amplifier and head unit, and double check the wiring polarity throughout.

Beyond these basic troubleshooting steps, though, I really don't have a good answer for you.  I hope you're able to figure it out.

Good luck!
