Car Stereos: Car Stereo, dead battery, jolt

Question
Hi

So my moms car broke down and wouldn't start. Not a problem in my book so she calls me on the phone and lets me lessen to the sound and it just sounds like she has a dead battery. So I call my dad and he comes and jumps her, but he put the positive and negative wrong on his car and right on hers. Here stereo starts cracking and popping he pulls it off and has seen what he has done. No he puts it on the right way and now her stereo works fine but theres no sound coming out of the speakers what could it be?

Thanks so much if you could help

Justin

Answer
Justin, that little jolt of positive coming up through the negative side probably shorted the internal amp that is built into the radio.  First, I would double check all fuses and be sure they are all good.  If it still does not work, the radio will probably need to be repaired.  Hope this helps, Scott
