Car Stereos: 95 maxima bose system, bose system, aftermarket radio

Question
Hi. I have a 1995 maxima i bought used a few years back. It came with a BOSE system that stopped working- as if it had no power at all. Im wondering if I should try to get the old stereo fixed- if I should try to install another newer model stereo from a previous car... or what? and how much should this all cost? I heard that it is a big job if i try to install a different one where they would have to rewire all my stereos. I don't know much about this and im trying to save money... your advice would be greatly appreciated!

Answer
Marly,  The simplest answer would be to have your current radio fixed.  It would cost around $100 and you can enjoy your music once again.  However, radios have made quite a few advances since 95, and it may be advantageous to look at a new radio.  With a new, aftermarket, radio, you will need to buy a wiring adapter and a mounting kit.  These are both reasonably inexpensive, and you get all the features of a new radio for about the same price it would cost to repair the original.  If you do look at new radios, I would recommend only Alpine.  Their cheapest model will sound better than most other brands' top models.  Hope this helps, Scott
