Car Stereos: No sound with aftermarket radio, hyundai xg 350, internal amplifier

Question
Hi Scott,
My problem is with an aftermarket JVC headunit.  I had the stock unit in and everything worked fine.  I went to install my JVC headunit last night and everything lit up, cd started to play, but I got no sound out of any speakers.  The JVC radio does work as I have tested it.  All wiring is correct along with hooking up the the blue wires for an amp.  I am unsure if my car has an amp but tried hooking it up and not hooking it up and didn't work either way.  I have searched online for a different harness for my car but I only find one.  My car is a 2003 Hyundai XG 350.  Any help would be great.  Thanks

Answer
Mike, the biggest problem with installing an aftermarket stereo is the blue remote wire.  Most people do not know exactly what to do with it, or they try and hook up their aftermarket amp with it, like the instructions say, but there is a big problem.  If there is any kind of miswiring with the blue wire, it shorts out the internal amplifier in the radio.  There is no fuse on that wire.  I highly recommend noone uses that wire for anything.  Just tape it up and don't let it touch anything.  If you need to hook up an aftermarket amplifier, use the yellow wire that turns your radio on and just splice off that wire.  It is fused, and if shorted, it will not cause any serious damage.  I would guess that you have shorted the internal amp of your radio.  I would take it to a local stereo shop, so they can check it.  If it is blown, you will need to take it to an electronics repair shop and have it repaired.  Hope this helps, Scott
