Car Stereos: Blinking Headlights on my 90 Jeep Laredo, jeep laredo, fuse box

Question
Just the other day my cd player was lit but no display or music came on. While at this time my headlights was working fine, came back home and unplugged the cd player. The cd player worked but no headlights, if I let it warm up I get blinking lights sometime.  What I think that it has something to do with the MacGyver cd player install.  Thanks Chris from Anchorage, AK.

Answer
Hi Christopher,

There aren't any wires in the factory radio harness that should affect the headlights in your Jeep; although there is a wire that would affect the parking lights and tail lights.  It's possible, though, that someone ran power wiring for the CD player directly to the fuse box and tapped it into an existing fuse position.  In this case, it could cause a loose fuse in the fuse box, which might lead to your blinking headlights.

I'd make sure all the wires behind the head unit are fully insulated, and inspect the fuse box for extra wires tapped in.  You might try pulling the headlight fuse and inspect the slots in the fuse box; look for charring or melted plastic.  However, if you don't see anything out of the ordinary in the fuse box, then my best guess would be that the headlight problem is unrelated to the radio.

Good luck!
