Car Stereos: kx400.1 kicker amp, kicker amp, protection mode

Question
my amp is in protection mode but its flashing to power also why

Answer
Hi Brady,

There are several things that can cause a "protect" light in an amplifier.  One possibility is a poor ground connection; this can cause power issues as well.  I'd check the ground wire and make sure it's securely fastened to a clean metal point on the body or chassis, with the paint scraped away.  Make sure the connection isn't loose at the ground point.

You might try disconnecting the subwoofer, to see if the protect light still comes on with no sub connected.  If it does, and if the power and ground wires are good, then there's likely to be a defect in the amplifier.  However, if it only gets a protect light when the sub is connected, you may have a problem with the sub--it may have a shorted voice coil, or you might have it wired for too low an impedance.

Hope this helps!

Brian
