Car Stereos: instalation of amp, rockford fosgate punch, sony xplod

Question
QUESTION: Hey,
I have a sony xplod 760watt amp hooked up in my car, bad amp but my rockford fosgate chrome amp blew up. I have 2 12' rockford fosgate punch 1 subs hooked up to them. I have the battery wire running from the amp to my battery. i have the ground wire drilled into my chasis, the rca outputs correctly plugged into my deck, and also the remote wire correctly installed into my head unit, however i can not get my amp to work, I checked to see if the fuse was blown and it wasnt. so i cant figure out what is wrong, the amp has never been used before so it couldnt be that the amp is busted right? All i am looking for it the power light on the amp to light up to show me it has power running to it, and that it works. any suggestions?
Please, would like any feedback, thank you.
-Zach

ANSWER: Zach, To double check your amp, you can run a jumper wire from the main power wire to the main power terminal and the switched power terminal.  That will eliminate the chance for the switched wire to be eliminated, which is usually the problem.  If the amp does work from the main power wire, then you know your switched wire is not connected properly.  Normally, you should connect the switched wire to the same wire that switches on the radio.  If the amp lights up, but does not work, then you might have done some damage to the stereo.  The stereo will need to be removed and checked at a stereo shop.  Hope this helps, Scott

QUESTION: Thanks Scott for your help, i have recently found out that my amp does work, and when i disconnect one of the rca inputs the power button light blinks on a off, however i still cannot figure out why the amp will not work properly.

Answer
Zach, I would try running another set of RCA wires and see if there might be some short in the original pair.  The best way is to use another set and just use them in place of the original set. If it does work, then your RCAs are bad.  If it still doesn't work, it may be a short of some sort inside your stereo.  Keep Trying, Scott
