Car Stereos: Subs & Amp Hook Up For 2002 Ford Taurus, kicker amp, ford taurus

Question
My boyfriend has hooked up 2 10" kickers and a kicker amp to my car but something isn't right because we're not getting anything from the subs. We know the amp and subwoofers work but its a factory radio and we are not sure if it is done correctly and if so what the problem could be. PLEASE help :) Misty

Answer
Hi Misty,

Unfortunately, there are quite a few different possible causes for your problem, so I may not be able to help you without being able to check over the vehicle.

Assuming that the amplifier is turning on, and not showing a "protect" light, then I'd want to know how the amplifier is connected to the factory system.  Are you using a line-output converter to connect to the factory speaker wiring?  If so, where is the converter connected?  In a 2002 Taurus, there are no speaker wires at the back of the factory radio unit; all the speaker wiring comes from the stock amplifier, located at the back of the driver's side wheel well in the trunk.

If you like, you can post a follow-up question with more details:  how is the amplifier connected to the factory audio system?  What are the factory wire colors where you're making your connections, and where did you find them?  Where is the amplifier's remote wire connected?  And is the amplifier turning on and showing status lights?

Hope this helps!
