Car Stereos: installation question, rca plugs, gmc canyon

Question
I have a 08 GMC Canyon.  Getting ready to install sub and amp, would like to use factory head unit.  Can you tell me if my factory unit has rca and remote jack, if not what is the best way to install w/ out buying aftermarket unit.  Is there a better way to set up other than buying an adaptor for these, have always heard you loose sound potential using these adaptors.  Thanks for your help.  Zac

Answer
Zac,  Most (probably all) factory stereos do not have RCA plugs.  Even their line level outputs are built into the factory plug.  Most amplifiers have speaker level inputs.  Just splice into your rear speakers' wires and run them to your amp's speaker level inputs.  If, for some reason, your amp does not have speaker level inputs, you can use a line level converter and it will not take away from the original sound quality.  All the converter does is it uses a resister to lower the speaker level wires to line level.  Essentially it is lowering volume from 10 or 15 watts to .1 or .15 watts.  Hope this helps, Scott
