Car Stereos: Head Unit Reseting, alpine head unit, wire colors

Question
Hey Scott, The other day i bought an alpine head unit and hooked it up.  Since owning the unit, just about every time that i restart my car the unit completely resets.  According to every wiring diagram i have seen for my 90 cavalier, all wiring is 100% correct(in my opinion).  My assumption was switching the ignition and power wires, but in doing that i blew both fuses.  What could be wrong?

Answer
Joe,  With the unit resetting that way, I would agree that the two power wires may have been connected reversely.  I would have done the same thing switching the 2 power wires.  Doing that should not have blown any fuses.  That is the confusing part.  If you are using a wiring adapter made for your car, it should have the correct wires labeled correctly.  If not, I would suggest going to www.modifiedlife.com and looking up your year and model car and see what they say are the correct wire colors.  Double check all wires and connections and be sure they are all secure and correct.  That should fix your problem.  Hope this helps, Scott
