Car Stereos: Dual XD7500N, rca cables, pre amp

Question
Hi I have the Dual XD7500N and it is over a year old I have a sub and amp and the sub works great when it wants to. So it will work for a week than just wont for a week then suddenly start up again out of nowhere. It did this quite a few times and now its just out. Pushes out muffled quiet base and hasent gone back on for 2 months now. I think its the cd player the pre amp in the back of the deck. What do you think. I know my sub is not blown at all. I have it installed in a honda accord. Anything i can try?

Answer
Alicia,  Most times this type of problem is caused by a short.  There is a loose wire or connection somewhere, and it has finally worked it's way totally loose.  First, I would check all of the connections, starting with the wires going into and out of the amp.  If all of those wires are tight, I would check where the amp is grounded, and make sure the ground wire is connected securely to the car.  If all wires are tight around the amp, then check the connections to the sub.  If the sub connections are tight, inspect all of the wires.  In your inspection, remove and replace the RCA cables, because they sometimes get microscopic corrosion on them and just reattching them will make them work.  After all of this, then I would start looking at the head unit.  First, I would check the connections to the head unit, and be sure they are all tight and have good wires.  After everything else has been checked and inspected, then maybe the head unit should be removed and taken in to the mobile audio store and tested.  You should be able to find a loose wire somewhere, and that should fix your problem.  Hope this helps, Scott
