Car Stereos: Installing subwoofers in a 98 Grand Prix., subwoofer amp, rockford fosgate

Question
I own a 1998 Grand Prix GT. I was wondering what i would need to do to hook up my amplifier and subs while still using the factory stereo. I have heard that you can hook into the car's factory amplifier but i do not know where that is located either. any tips or suggestions would also help. the subs are 10 inch 500 watt max power, 250 rms and the amplifier is a rockford fosgate 500 watt two channel. Thanks for the help!!!

Answer
Hi Max,

You can connect your amplifier to the factory audio system using a device called a line output converter.  This connects to the factory speaker wiring and produces a low-level output that can be connected to your amp using RCA cables.  It's not really necessary to find the factory amplifier; you just need to get to the speaker wiring, and this should be easy to find under the rear deck in your trunk.  If you connect the line-out converter to the wires running to the rear 6x9's, you should get an audio signal that will work very well for a subwoofer amp.

Hope this helps!
