Car Stereos: Adding Amp & Woofer to 07 G6 GT w/ Monsson, independent amplifier, rear speakers

Question
I would like to add an additional Amp and Sub to my 2007 G6 GT w/ the upgraded monsoon sound and 6 disc in dash changer. I have done quite a few car stereo mods before and am wondering if there are preamp outs on the back I can use(which I doubt) and if not what would be the best method for doing this?? I have spliced into the rear speakers before to pull an audio signal from there for the amp but this is obviously not the best method and especially nowadays seeing I have 8 speakers and this is going to mess with the overall level balance. Thanks for any advice you might be able to give.

Answer
Hi,

I've not worked on the new G6es yet, but I'm willing to be $20 that you do not have OEM preouts.  The likely scenario is that they've designed their own harness that goes into the speakers in the car.

You'll have to be sure that the speakers aren't amplified, and you actually have an amplifier.  If the speakers are self-amplified, you'll have to just find some sort of factory integration harness.

If you have an independent amplifier in the car (usually mounted to the firewall near the glove compartment, or in the trunk), then you can just tap into the rear speaker wires coming out of the amp, and put a high level output converter on them, and run RCAs from that to your amp.  (Low level running through the car is a lot less susceptible to interference and road noise).
