Car Stereos: Subwoofer Noise, 12v power supply, noise question

Question
QUESTION: So every time I turn my car on the subs start making these low frequency hits. Do you know what could be causing this? Ground connection? I also heard it might be a relay but I am not sure..

Thanks in advance

ANSWER: It may be a couple of things.  Quite possibly, it could be a not so good ground.  Also, it may be the amp power connections.  The power wire should be connected to a constant 12v power supply.  The remote wire should be connected to a switched 12v supply.  If the power wire is connected to a switched supply line, it will cause a hit everytime it is you turn the power on.  If the switched wire is connected to a constant power wire, you will get a pop when the radio turns on.  It is best to hook the remote of the amp to the same wire that switches the radio.  Hope this helps, Scott

QUESTION: Hey Scott, the thing is I have had my subs installed for almost a year and a half and nothing has changed.. I will redo the amp connections and all the other connections but it really just happened out of no where so I dont really think its a wire problem..any other suggestions?

Answer
Actually, that is usually what happens.  The wires corrode over time at the connections, and when the corrosion builds up enough, it causes a "not so good" connection.  Usually, just redoing the connections will solve the problem.  Many times you cannot see the corrosion, but it is there and it will wear off when you reattach it.  Otherwise, the problem could be an internal issue with the amp, but I doubt that is it.  Good Luck, Scott
