Car Stereos: amp not working, amp light, running power

okay so my brother gave me his old car which has a mtc sub and amp in it. 2 days ago the sub just stopped working...I looked in the trunk and the amp light doesn't come on when my stero is on. the sub and amp were hooked up by future shop about 2 years ago.
reason for why nothing is working even though everything is connect?

There's a bunch of reasons this could be happening.

The likely scenario is that a fuse has popped.  Either the one under the hood running power to the amp, or the one in the amp itself.  Check those first.

Another is that the amp has fried itself.  If this has happened, you can imagine what your next step is.

Finally, the other possibility is some wiring has come loose.  This is unlikely, but possible.  If that's the case, you'll want to take it to an installer to have them fix it and ensure it won't happen again.
