Car Stereos: Amp install kit, amp fuses, spade terminal

Question
Hello Brian,

I looked up the install kit you suggested, but it does not have the same items you listed.

You listed:

BC-1428 fused distribution block

2 AGU40 40-amp fuses

6 feet of KFX8BL 8-gauge power cable

6 feet of KFX8BK 8-gauge ground cable

2 ST88BK black spade terminal

2 ST88R red spade terminals

GMBT  GM side-post battery terminal

KLA-2M 2-meter RCA cable

They listed:
( Knukonceptz Item #KOL-AK44 )

Description: Complete 4 Gauge Amplifier Installation Kit with Blue / Silver Power wire. 120A Mini-ANL Fuse and Holder now included. Kit Includes:

18 Feet 4 Gauge Blue Kolossus Fleks Power Wire

It might be the same to you, but I wanted to make sure.  Let me know.

Answer
Hi Michele,

I'm sorry I wasn't clearer:  you'll need the additional items I listed, in addition to the KOL-AK44 wiring kit.  It wasn't a list of parts included in the kit.  Even with the additional parts, it should cost quite a bit less than the $105 kit plus $20 RCA cable you were quoted at the store.  Altogether, the parts I listed, along with a 4-channel line-output converter, should include everything that's needed for the installation of the powered subwoofer and the 4-channel amp.

Basically, the amp kit includes 4-gauge power wiring, remote wiring, and two sets of RCA cables.   The 4-gauge wire from the amp kit would run from the car's battery to the BC-1428 distribution block.  Then you'd run 8-gauge (KFX8BL) power wire from the distribution block to the powered sub; and another run of 8-gauge power wire from the distribution block to the 4-channel amp (when it's installed). The two 40-amp fuses (AGU40) go with the distribution block; they ensure that each 8-gauge power wire--to the amp, and to the sub--is independently fused.

The amp kit includes two RCA cables that can be connected to a 4-channel line-output converter.  For now, you'd run one RCA cable to the powered sub, and leave the other one disconnected.  When you add the 4-channel amp, both RCA cables will be connected to the amp, and the shorter RCA cable (KLA-2M) would run from the amplifier's RCA output directly to the sub.

The red and black spade terminals (ST88BK and ST88R) are used to make a clean connection from the 8-gauge wires to the amplifier and subwoofer power terminals; and the GMBT GM battery terminal is needed to cleanly connect the main power wire to the battery.

I don't have details on the amplifier kit at Ultimate Electronics, so I can't say how the list of parts I gave you might compare to that kit.  I tried to come up with as complete a list as possible; none of the kits at Knukonceptz included all the parts you'll need, which is why there were so many additional parts in my list.  I'm guessing that the $105 kit wouldn't include everything you need either (for example, a GM battery terminal is never included with an amp kit, but it's required for any amplifier installation in a GM vehicle with a side-terminal battery).

Ideally, if these parts are used when you have the subwoofer installed, then adding the 4-channel amp later will be a very quick and easy job:  you'd just have to run a new power wire from the amplifier to the distribution block, run an RCA cable from the amp to the sub, and ground the amplifier.  That's the benefit of having the extra wiring installed now: presumably, when you add the 4-channel amp later, it will save you some time and labor costs.

Hope this helps!

Brian
