Car Stereos: car radios, antenna connection, types of plugs

Hi, i've just bought a car with a radio in it, i was wondering if i bought a cd player to swap it for would i have to buy any special cables?

Hi Michael,

You'll probably need to purchase an adapter harness that fits the radio plug in your vehicle.  Different manufacturers use different types of plugs for the head unit, and after-market head units don't include various harnesses to fit every vehicle type.  Instead, you'd purchase an adapter harness made to fit your vehicle.  

Depending on the vehicle, you may need to purchase a similar adapter for the antenna connection, and/or a mounting kit to make the new head unit fit your car's dash opening.

If you contact a local car audio installation shop, they should be able to tell you what additional parts are required for your vehicle.
