Car Stereos: power connection, fuse box, alpine cd

Question
I have a 2006 GMC Canyon, and am in the process of installing an aftermarket Alpine CD player.  As i found out, there is no switch power source that runs to the radio to turn the power off and on.  i have a wire running from the radio to the fuse box, tapped into a fuse that only works in acc and the on position.  Is there a safer way to wire the radio without having a wire stuck in the fuse box?

Answer
There is a Fuse box adapter you can buy that replaces the fuse in the box.  It has a lead for your radio wire, and a place for the original fuse to be placed and a place for a fuse on the outgoing lead.  Second, you can buy a wiring adapter from crutchfield.com that is made specifically for your car.  It will have a little computer board attached to it, that works the on/off wire.  The adapter harness is usually fairly expensive, so I would stick with the fuse box adapter.  Hope this helps, Scott
