Car Stereos: Pulling 1 ohm from amp, infinity speakers, 4 ohms

Question
I have an 4 channel alpine 300w amp and 4 front infinity speakers wired in series pulling a total load of 4 ohms from my amp.  I have 2 infinity's in the rear pulling 2 ohms and the comparison from front to rear just isnt doing the job for me.  If by wiring my front speakers in parallel and pulling 1 ohm from the amp, would that overheat it?  If so, how can i avoid this problem.

Answer
Hi Joe,

If you have 4x4ohm speakers in series on an amp, you're providing SIXTEEN ohms of resistance, not 4.  That will result in very low output.

If you put them in parallel, yes, you'll have 1 ohm.  Whether or not your amp can handle that is not a question I can answer without the model number.  You can easily google for the specifications on your amplifier to see if it will safely handle 1ohm of load.  The likely answer, however, is no.  If the amp is rated to only handle 4 or 2 ohms on the channel, you'll likely find it shutting itself off to protect itself.
