Car Stereos: 2006 Acura TL Stock Radio System, 2006 acura tl, acura tl

Question
I would like to install an amp and two 12 inch subwoofers in my 2006 Acura TL using the factory stereo. Will I need an adapter of any type or can I connect everything right to the back of the factory unit?

Answer
Hi Matthew,

Depending on your amplifier, you may need a device called a line output converter.  This connects to the factory speaker wiring and produces a low-level output that can be connected to the amplifier with RCA cables.  Some amplifiers have speaker-level inputs in addition to RCA inputs; in this case, you wouldn't need a line output converter. You could just connect the amplifier's speaker-level inputs directly to the factory speaker wires.

I don't think I'd try getting behind the factory radio at all, in your vehicle.  I've had to do this a few times, and it's not something I'd recommend if you can avoid it.  You should be able to make your speaker wire connections at the factory speaker locations in the trunk.  This is especially true if your TL is equipped with the factory subwoofer.  The "remote" input on the amplifier can be connected to any key-switched power source in the fuse box.

Hope this helps!
