Car Stereos: stereo navigation system wont turn on, blown fuse, fuse box

Question
My battery went dead in my Suburban.  After jumping the vehicle my kenwood stereo navigation system won't turn on.  All I get is a black screen.  Could I have blown a fuse?  If so where do I locate it and then replace it?  What type of fuse would it be?  Thanks so much.

Answer
Hi Rebekah,

It's not uncommon for fuses to blow when a vehicle is jump-started.  Unfortunately, I don't know the exact location of the fuse in your Suburban.  Depending on the model year, there may be two fuses that supply radio power: a radio accessory fuse, and a radio battery fuse.  If one is blown, it's more likely to be the battery fuse.  There is a fuse box located on the end of the dash, accessible with the driver's door opened; but there's a good chance the fuse is located in the fuse/electrical box under the hood.

If you don't find a blown fuse, you might try resetting the head unit.  Most Kenwood navigation head units have a small, recessed reset button on the front face which can be pressed with a pen tip.

Hope this helps!
