Car Stereos: amp, watts rms, power acoustik amplifier

Question
hi i wanted to know if its safe to hook up my 2 10" p1 punch subs to a power acoustik 1250 amps without blowing them up

Answer
Hi Chris,

My experience with the Rockford P1 series has been that it's not that hard to blow them.  They're rated for 150 watts RMS apiece; if you have the 4-ohm version, then you'll want to look for a mono amplifier rated for 300 watts RMS or less at 2 ohms; or a 2-channel amplifier rated at or under 150 watts per channel at 4 ohms.  (Always look at the RMS power ratings, and ignore the "peak" ratings).

I don't know if your Power Acoustik amplifier matches that power rating or not.  There are several different models of PA amplifiers that are billed as "1250 watts".  Most of them appear to be 2-channel amps rated at around 220 watts per channel RMS at 4 ohms.  If yours is similar, then it's probably a bit too much power for a pair of Rockford P1's.

Hope this helps!
