Car Stereos: pontiac g5 2007 factory stereo, line output converter, power antenna

Question
I'm trying to add a sub and amp to my factory stereo in a pontiac g5 2007, I have a line output converter which i tapped into the rear speaker wires. Do I need to attach a remote wire to it? if so which wire is it?

Answer
Hi Mel,

I haven't worked on any '07 Pontiacs yet, but hopefully I can still help.

Will you need a line output converter?  Depends on which one you have.  But the answer is: probably.

If you're using the factory stereo, however, you'll have to put a little work into finding a wire you can use, and might just end up using the accessory power.

Basically the only way you can easily find out (without just consulting someone who knows the '07 wiring colours) is to use a multimeter, and test the wires coming off the deck WHILE IT'S ON (usually you'll have to rest it somewhere safely still plugged in, but out of the dash), and find a wire that has 12V to ground when the deck is on, but 0 when the deck is off -- and make sure you test while it's on CD mode or something, because a power antenna lead that only has power when your deck is in FM/AM mode would be annoying.

If you can't find one, just tap into the accessory and know that your line out converter will be on any time the car is on or in accessory mode.
