Car Stereos: Amp To Sub Wiring, ohm loads, ohm load

Question
I have a 1ohm stable 2 channel 1500 watt amp bridge to mono.  Hooked up to 2 4ohm duel voice coil 12in subs.  I would like to know the recommended way to get the most power out of my amp to my subs or other suggested wiring tips that will not damage anything.  I would also appreciate a suggested site that shows many other wiring diagrams for car audio.  Thank you for taking the time to read this I look forward to your reply.  Big D

Answer
Hi Dave,

It's tough to say without knowing more about your amplifier and subs.  There are very few 2-channel amps that are stable with a 1-ohm load in "bridged" mode.  Generally, if an amp can handle 1-ohm loads in a 2-channel configuration, it's limited to a minimum of 2 ohms when bridged.  If yours is like this, then you'd have to either wire the subs so that they present a 4-ohm load to the bridged amp (as you can't combine two 4-ohm DVC subs for a 2-ohm load), or you'd need to wire each individual sub for 2 ohms, and use the amp in 2-channel mode.  Either way, you won't get the maximum rated power from your amplifier, but you may still get enough power for your needs.

If you can follow up with the brand/model number for your amp and your subwoofers, I might be able to give you more specific information.
