Car Stereos: 2 or 4 speakers, quality speakers, factory stereo

I'm replacing the factory stereo in an extended cab pickup which has 4 speakers, my amp puts out 222 watts into 2 channels or 80 watts into 4 channels. Would it be better to just use 2 high quality front speakers and no rears or use 4 mid quality speakers? Cost and sound quality both being issues.

Hi Darryl,

I'd go with 80x4 if I were you -- if the amp truly puts out 80x4 RMS, that's PLENTY of wattage for an extended cab pickup, and you'll get the full surround sounding experience.  I find listening to the front speakers only on cars that only have them or where their rears are blown or whatever sounds really awkward.  It might just be habit at this point, but 80x4 should be plenty.
