Car Stereos: line voltage, factory stereo, rcas

Question
How important is the line out voltage on an aftermarket deck? I notice that, in general, the higher priced head units have more voltage. What gains, if any, are there? I plan on replacing my factory stereo with mid grade deck, amp and speakers.

Answer
Hi Darryl,

Higher voltage preouts generally don't need the gain to be turned up as high to get the right sound out of the amp, thereby eliminating unwanted noise.

As long as you use well shielded RCAs, and you don't run them alongside your power wire, don't worry too much about the line output voltage.
