Car Stereos: car audio, fuse holder, mono amp

Question
"i have 1 JL 15" sub with a mono amp that just stop working recently, had for 6 years. But every once in a while when i first start my car up it will come back on and then cut back off as soon as i put the car in gear and drive a few feet."

Answer
Hi,

In a case like this, I'd probably start by checking the power and ground connections.  Take a close look at the main power wire connection to the battery, and the connections between the power wire and the fuse holder.  I'd also look at the spot where the amplifier's ground wire is connected to the vehicle chassis.

Look for evidence of corrosion, charring, or loose connections.  After this amount of time, I'd be surprised not to see some loose or corroded connections, or perhaps a loosened screw at the ground point.  You might have to cut away a bit from the wire ends and make new connections with clean wire.  I'd also suggest replacing the fuse, even if it doesn't appear to be blown.

Hope this helps!
