Car Stereos: wiring an amp in a 2002 cavalier, fuse box, negative terminals

Question
okay i have a aftermarket cd player in my car already, i got the wiring harness and i had to run the red wire from my cd player to my ignition switch fuse in my fuse box, now i am trying to wire my sony amp to my 12' kicker comp, and i hooked everything up but my amp isn't comming on, and the only thing i can think of would have to be the remote wire is hooked up wrong, so my question is how do i hook my remote wire from my amp to my aftermarket cd player? i already tried hookinh it up to the blue and white striped wire and nothing works. thanks

Answer
Hi John,

The remote wire coming off of the deck should usually be blue, but isn't all of the time -- the wires coming off of the aftermarket deck should be labelled.  Make sure you have the right one, and run it to the remote on your amplifier.

Take a multimeter and ensure you've got 12V across the positive and negative terminals on the amp, and 12V from the remote to ground terminal when the stereo is on.  That should help you find what it is that's not connected correctly.
