Car Stereos: kenwood car cd player, car cd player, laymans terms

i have just had this installed in my new car. after about 1 week of using i get on screen PROTECT looking at manual this means that speaker cable is at fault. what do i have to do.please in laymans terms, so that i can find fault and sort it my self. garage does not want to know.

Kathleen, That means that one of your speaker wires has a short in it.  One of the positive wires going to one of the speakers has rubbed a hole through the insulation of the wire, and it is touching metal.  This most commonly happens where there is alot of movement.  So, if there are speakers in the front doors, the short is usually in the drivers door jam, where the wire is bent back and forth with every door opening.  You will have to find the short, before the radio will try and work again.  Hope this helps, Scott
