Question
I have 2 10" subs but I have yet to find the amp. I was told my stock amp is only for hi's and low's. What all do I need to make my stock jeep stereo bump nice. Don't need anything crazy and don't wanna spend a grand to do it. Whats your suggestion?

Answer
Amber,  You are on the right track with the subs.  They are what will make your system bump.  When looking for an sub amp, there are a couple of guidelines to use.  First, you must only go by "rms" watts, not max watts, on any audio equipment.  So, your subs' power rating should show an "rms" watts.  You do not want an amp with more "rms" watts than your subs.  Your stock stereo, has about 18-22 "rms" watts per channel.  Your sub amp should be at least double your high/mid power, so your sub amp would be at least 50 "rms" watts per channel.  Second, with amplifiers, size matters.  If a really small amp claims 50 watts, it probably will not put out 50 watts.  A 50 - 70 watt amp should be about the size of a large textbook.  Also, price is the same.  You get what you pay for.  You can get a really good 50 - 70 "rms" watt amp pretty reasonably.  That will give you the sound you are looking for.  Also, you do need make sure you have a sealed sub enclosure for your subs.  Hope this helps, Scott
