Car Stereos: Jensen AMW970, random play, rdm

We have a Jensen AMW970 in a RV and we are having problems controlling the ipod once plugged in. You can not select a playlist but only allows you to play random and always begins with the first song on the ipod. Is there something wrong with the system? We have the ipod connected to the ipod cable behind the system.

I don't have any personal experience with that particular unit, but I was able to find the owner's manual online.

From the sound of it, your deck is stuck in the random play mode.  It should toggle through the three modes (random-album, random-all, and random-off) when you press the "4/RDM" button.  If that's not working as it should, I don't have any good ideas on how to fix it.  You should make sure that your iPod is updated to the most current firmware available; this will sometimes fix control issues.  You can also try resetting the unit by disconnecting the main power wire for a minute.
