Car Stereos: Alpine amp in a Honda Ridgeline, alpine amp, rca splitter

Question
My brother wants to add some subs and an Alpine amp to his Ridgeline which has a wimpy factory sub but keep the factory radio/navigation units. The Ridgeline has a mono (two wires, one + and one -) sub output so do I connect the vehicle (factory sub disconnected) mono output to both R and L (+ and -) channels of the speaker level connector to the amp so both channels share the same vehicle mono input signal?? Or use a hi/low converter with both R and L inputs connected to split the vehicle mono signal?? Or should I use one channel of a hi/low converter and use a RCA splitter on the hi/low converter output to connect both R and L RCA amp input jacks??

Answer
Hi Wayne,

You can use the high-level inputs or a line-out converter, but in either case I'd just connect the left and right channels directly to the respective (+) and (-) speaker wires.  There's no problem with connecting both inputs together in a case like this.

The opposite would not be true; ie, you wouldn't want to connect left and right factory speaker wires to the same input on a line-out converter.  But connecting both inputs to a single speaker wire would be the correct option in your situation.

Hope this helps!
