Car Stereos: GM/Bose Radio, gm bose, bose radio

Question
Hi Scott,
I have a 2004 Chevy 2500HD Crewcab.  Left side speakers went out and the door chime is very faint.Right side speakers (front and back) and radio head seem to work fine.  I checked the fuses and disconnected the battery for a time but the left side speakers have not come back  Could you advise what might be wrong here? Before the left side went out I heard a couple pops in the speakers. The door chime has been fading for some time..you can still hear it,hoever.  Thank you for your time.

Answer
Scott,  I would guess that you have a short in your speaker wiring.  It has rubbed somewhere against something sharp, and it is touching bare wire.  Many times, this will happen in a door jam when a speaker is in a door.  Otherwise, somewhere where there might be some type of movement should be checked.  If there is no short noticeable, then it may be the connection to the radio, or a short inside the radio itself.  The radio can be checked by borrowing an oem radio from a salvage yard, and trying it in your truck.  If the sound comes back, you know it is the radio.  If the sound is still faint, then you know it is a short that you haven't found yet.  Hope this helps, Scott
