Car Stereos: No sound from Subs after replacing alternator and battery that died., pioneer subs, radio works

Question
Hi, I am confused.. My car would not start one day so I jumped it off, Drove into town turned it off and it wouldn't start again, after jumping it off several times over a few days. it finally completely died and stopped letting me jump it off I found out the Alternator was dead and the battery was shot as well.  I took my car into my mechanic and he put in a new battery and alternator. My radio works and all the inside speakers work but there is no sound coming out of my 2 10inch pioneer subs. I checked all of the wiring and it all looks like it did before i took the car into get it fixed,  Can you please help me diagnose the problem>? Thanks James

Answer
Hi James,

I'm assuming you have an amplifier connected to your Pioneer subs.  Does the amp's power light come on when you turn on the audio system?

If it doesn't, then I'd check the amplifier's power connection at the battery.  Make sure it was re-connected securely when the battery was replaced.  Also, there should be a fuse on the power wire near the battery; I'd replace it, even if it doesn't look blown.

If your amplifier's power light is on, but you're still not getting sound, I'd check the head unit.  It's possible that your head unit has a subwoofer output that can be switched on and off.  If so, it may have defaulted to the "off" position when the power was reset.

Hope this helps!
