Car Stereos: speakers, olds alero, wiring schematics

Question
i have a 2001 olds alero with the 8 speaker 200 watt amp from factory. the back speakers went bad so i bought sony 6x9 xplode s to replace them. the old speakers had 4 wires to them. the new ones only had spoy for 2 wires. i connected 2 wires and cut off the other two. what should i have done with other 2 wires?  the new speakers do not seem to have the sound i was used to.are the new speakers inferior or did i do something wrong? thank you for the help.   mike

Answer
Mike, that does sound confusing.  Those other two wires are probably doing something that needs to be done.  I do not know the exact wiring schematics of an 01 Alero, but I would start by trying to find out what each one of those wires is for.  You can get that information from a service catalog or possibly an old shop manual.  Once you know what they are doing, you can determine what to do with them.  Or, you can contact your local salvage yards and try and track down a set of original speakers to put back in.  Hope this helps, Scott
