Car Stereos: 2002 Jaguar X-Type 6 Disc CD player Stuck, jaguar x type, disc cd

Question
I have a 2002 Jaguar X-Type with a factory 6 disc CD player in the trunk.  It was working fine until one day I hit the button to turn on the CD player and it said error and wouldn’t play it.  I opened the trunk and I tried to take out the discs to see if maybe one was put in upside down or something but I can’t get it out.  The part that holds the 6 cd’s is stuck and I’m not sure if I can just use a knife or something to try to pull it out or if that would damage it.
Help!  I hate the radio and it’s all I can listen to right now!

Answer
Jess, Unfortunately mobile cd players and changers are not built with the most solid design as they should.  In fact, it is just the opposite.  Mobile cd players are the flimsiest cd players available.  With you trunk mounted changer, the disc loading and unloading mechanism has probably just been jarred one too many times.  You can use a knife to assist in releasing the magazine, but I would be leary of putting it back as the mechanism inside is the problem.  It will probably need to be rebuilt ($200) or replaced ($350).  Hope this helps, Scott
