Car Stereos: new stereo in camaro help, best bet, stero

Question
Hi, couple of questions...when I went to install my new stereo in my 97 camaro..I had attatched the universal installing harness to connect the new stero with the car's original harness, and I'm assuming Im having the fuse the wires together, "the wires from the new stereo and thewires from my bought harness..." is this so?

My question is, that I have the harness from within the car, but there is like a separate additional harness, "smaller, "coming from within my car.." What is this for?? Because the instructions from JVC do not call for anything but the connection of the one main harness to the main and only plug of the new stereo. "there is no additional plug for this other harness coming from within, there is just like a red and white connection holes on the new stereo...but in neither the box nor the installation kit did i find little red or white insert cords..Can you tell me why I have this extra harness, is it necessary to have connected to something?

Also, if I just cannot figure this out, is there a place that I can take the car to and get this installed for under $3o? Or even where to go to look?

Thanks for your help.

Answer
Hi Nick,

The harness you bought should connect to any/all harnesses that were originally plugged into the factory deck.  Then, you'll need to either crimp or solder together the wires on the aftermarket harness to the harness for the car, and everything should just clip together.

If there's something missing, perhaps you have the wrong harness?  The harness you have should look like this:

Where and how much you can get the stereo installed for I couldn't help you with as I don't know where you live, nor do I really keep track of what stores/shops charge.  Your best bet is to check with friends and/or call around (oh, and stay away from dealerships, they're guaranteed to the be the most expensive.)
