Car Stereos: stereo in camaro, help., wire nuts, radio harness

Question
Hi, couple of questions...when I went to install my new stereo in my 97 camaro..I had attatched the universal installing harness to connect the new stero with the car's original harness, and I'm assuming Im having the fuse the wires together, "the wires from the new stereo and thewires from my bought harness..." is this so?

My question is, that I have the harness from within the car, but there is like a separate additional harness, "smaller, "coming from within my car.." What is this for?? Because the instructions from JVC do not call for anything but the connection of the one main harness to the main and only plug of the new stereo. "there is no additional plug for this other harness coming from within, there is just like a red and white connection holes on the new stereo...but in neither the box nor the installation kit did i find little red or white insert cords..Can you tell me why I have this extra harness, is it necessary to have connected to something?

Also, if I just cannot figure this out, is there a place that I can take the car to and get this installed for under $3o? Or even where to go to look?

Thanks for your help.

Answer
Nick,  Yes you will need to connect the appropriate wires together from the radio harness to the adapter harness.  It is best to twist the bare wires together then solder the wires to keep them connected.  That is sometimes tricky and time consuming, so some people just use wire nuts to attach the wires together.  Be sure you get the appropriate sized wire nuts (usually blue or gray).  As far as the other harness inside the dash, I would not worry about it.  There are a number of things it could be.  Does your car have steering wheel controls?  It may be for those, or it may be for steering wheel controls if you were to add the correct steering wheel.  Anyways, do not even worry about that extra harness.  Also, very important, make sure the blue or blue/white wire from the radio is capped off and has no bare wire exposed.  If those wires touch a piece of metal under the dash, they will fry the built-in amplifier of your new radio.  Otherwise, just follow the instructions.  Hope this helps, Scott
