Car Stereos: No sound from all speakers in my car., wire harness, fm radio

Question
Hi,

A few months ago my speakers would start going out randomly.  If I pushed on my CD player it would sometimes come back on.  Eventually it got worse, and no sound would come on at all.  At this point I bought a new wire harness.  That didn't help at all.

I eventually took apart the stereo and noticed that if I pushed down on a conductor that the sound would come back on, but when I released pressure, the sound would turn back off.  I eventually borrowed a friends radio.  I installed the stereo and still no sound comes from all of the speakers.

The stereo is working, I can see that it is playing the CD or on the FM radio setting normally.  All the fuses are fine, including the ones for the car and the one in the back of the CD player.

My car is a 1995 Camaro.

Any idea why the speakers aren't working, or what I can do to try to get them to work again.

Thank you in advance for your response.

Answer
Dan,  I am going to guess the problem is in the radios.  Not the wiring.  I would suggest borrowing an OEM stereo that will plug directly into the factory plug, connect the antenna properly, then see if it works.  If it does, your radios have issues, and you need to buy a radio that works.  If there is still not sound from any speakers, there is probably some type of short in the wiring, and I would suggest rewiring the entire sound system to insure the longevity of the repair.  Hope this helps, Scott
