QUESTION: Brian,

I currently have a Alpine 3527S in the vehicle right now. How about some help with that one for now. I am changing from a band pass box on the seat to a sealed box under the seat. I am looking more for sound quality than volume. I will be using the sub I mentioned earlier. If I don't get the sound i'm looking for I'll try the sony amp and get back to you with a model number on it. I don't have it in my possesion at this time.

Thx again Andrew

Answer
Andrew,

Probably the best way to use your sub with the Alpine amplifier would be to connect each voice coil to a pair of channels in "bridged" mode. This should produce about 100 watts RMS, but it's not the simplest wiring setup; you'd have to have a box with two sets of speaker terminals.  However, that's the configuration that gets the maximum power from your amplifier.

The ideal amplifier for your sub would be a mono amplifier rated around 300-400 watts RMS at 2 ohms.  Most of the Sony amplifiers that come up when I search for "Xplod 500 watt" are 4-channel amps like your Alpine.  A mono amplifier should perform better with a single subwoofer, as well as being easier to wire.

Thanks for your question!
