Car Stereos: 1997 buick LeSabre IN-DASH Removal, wheel next, buick lesabre

Question
I have a 1997 Buick LeSabre and i want to switch out the factory radio with another radio, How do i take of the dash to access the Factory Radio?

Answer
Hi Frank,

The key to this dash is the large number of hidden screws.

First, the long "woodgrain" panel that stretches all the way across the dash needs to come off.  It's just held in with clips.  Start all the way by the passenger door and pull the end of the panel until it pops loose.  Work your way back toward the driver's side, popping the connectors loose as you go.  You'll also have to remove the small strip on the driver's side of the steering wheel.

Next, all four dash vents need to be removed.  Basically, turn the vent piece as far as it will go in either direction, then pop it out.  It's held in by little sockets on the top and bottom, but it will pop out fairly easily.  (The bottom socket is slightly larger than the top one; keep this in mind when it's time to put them back in).

Inside each vent opening, at the top, you'll find a 9/32" hex screw.  Also, there are several screws along the length of the lower part of the dash panel, under the "woodgrain" trim piece you removed first.  Take out all these screws.

Next, set your parking brake, turn the key on, and move shifter to a position where it's out of the way.  Tilt the steering wheel to its lowest position.  You're going to remove the entire dash panel that runs all the way across the front of the dash.  Once all the screws are out, it's just held in with more clips.  Pull the top part loose first, then pull the entire panel upward and outward to free up the bottom.

The radio is held in with five screws.  Don't miss the two recessed screws at the bottom.

Hope this helps!

Brian
