Car Stereos: I Can Get Am, Just Not FM, antenna wire, ford radio

Question
Hello there and I hope the new year's treating you well so far. I have a question about a problem I am experiencing. I have a 1993 Ford Explorer that has the original Ford Radio still in place. I have a problem in which when I have the radio set to FM, I cannot get any sound. I can set the stations and so on, but no audio. On the other hand, my AM band works perfectly. What do you thin the problem might be? I appreciate your help.

Answer
Chin,

The new year is great so far.  Thanks for asking.  I think your problem is with the antenna.  Most car radios do not use the antenna for AM, only for FM.  If the antenna comes loose from the radio, you will lose reception.  First, check the connection.  Must be pushed in tight.  Then, your antenna wire may have a break or wear spot in it.  It is hard to check the wire for breaks or wear spots, so it is easiest to just replace the antenna wire.  That should repair the problem.  Hope this helps, Scott
