Car Stereos: Amplifier wiring for 03 Silverado, rubber grommet, rubber grommets

Question
Hello, I'm currently trying to install an amplifier for a sub in my friend's 03 Silverado, but I'm not sure of the best way to run a fresh power cable from the battery to the amplifier behind his seat other than making my own whole through the frame. Might there be a way for me to get the cable from the battery into the cab without drilling?

Answer
Hi John,

The firewall will have lots and lots of holes in it for other wires already.  The trick is to find a hole for an option the vehicle doesnt have and use it, since they often have rubber grommets in them already you can use as a cushion.

Once you find a hole, make sure you put a rubber grommet in it if there isn't one, and run the fresh wire through the middle of it to prevent the wire from rubbing and eventually cutting through the wiring, shorting the cable to the frame.

Be careful not to run it anywhere that can interfere with the steering linkage or brake/clutch/gas pedals.

Check in that area though, since a vehicle with an automatic might have a hole in the frame for the clutch cable in a manual.  If it's a manual, check for a hole for extra wiring for the automatic transmission system, etc.
